Halloween Riddles
Draw near the fire, good subjects, for the nights are closing in and the castle has begun to creak in that particular way it saves for October. I have gathered here my finest Halloween riddles: ghosts and pumpkins, witches and their cauldrons, skeletons, mummies, black cats and a haunted house or two. None of them will keep the little ones awake, though one or two may keep the grown-ups guessing.
They are fit for a party, a classroom, or the long walk between doorsteps with a bucket of sweets. Read each aloud, allow a proper pause, and only then lift the lid on the answer. Gerald, my crow, insists he is not the least bit frightened by any of this. He has also not come down from the curtain rail since I lit the lantern, so you may draw your own conclusions.
