"I am the finest natural fabric in the world, produced by an insect. I was so valuable it inspired trade routes across continents. A single thread of me can be up to a mile long. What am I?"
Answer
Silk
Explanation
Silk is produced by silkworms — the larvae of the silk moth — when they spin their cocoons. A single cocoon can yield up to 900 metres (about 3000 feet) of continuous thread. Silk was so valuable in ancient times it gave its name to the Silk Road.
